The deconstruction of industrial, commercial, and residential buildings is becoming increasingly common practice in Lower Mainland, British Columbia. Many buildings are simply demolished without consideration of the environmental benefits of deconstruction or the use of salvaged materials.
This guide was developed to provide industry professionals with practical knowledge regarding the use of salvaged materials on new projects, and to dispel the perception that salvaged building materials are of inferior quality to new resources.
Using real examples and drawing on the experiences of local industry professionals, it provides details on designing with salvaged materials and information on the procurement, availability, quality, and cost of used building materials in the Lower Mainland.
