- Bastyr is a naturopathic university and is particularly concerned with minimizing impacts to the environment and providing housing that fits within the serene natural setting of the campus.
- The housing design has achieved a LEED Gold Certification and is targeted for LEED Platinum upon completion. It is likely to be the first U.S. student housing project to achieve LEED for Homes Platinum.
- The buildings’ butterfly roofs are angled upward on both sides to catch rain. Water from the site goes into a nearby bio-swale and sediment pond to treat recovered surface water and is used to replenish adjacent wetlands.
- RDH provided schematic design review services during the initial stages of the project to ensure continuity of the primary barriers: air, water (liquid and vapour), and thermal. We also provided product recommendations for durable, high-performance assembly components, and helped develop details and installation procedures to meet performance expectations.
- During the construction phase, RDH provided field review services to document progress and compliance with project documents, as well as providing additional guidance as necessary.
