The project was split into two parts. The first study dealt with all of the design, manufacturing, and construction factors that can influence the water penetration resistance of the installed window assembly. The second study examined codes, standards, testing, and certification requirements and how they address water penetration resistance of windows.
The project was led and authored by RDH. Several window manufacturers were part of the project team, as well as a lab testing organization and the Institute for Research in Construction.
The combination of the two studies has provided a roadmap for improvements in all facets of the industry to help address what has been a chronic contributor to moisture problems in buildings.
