The project was led and primarily authored by RDH. However, it received much industry guidance through a steering committee and was extensively reviewed. It has become the accepted standard for building envelope construction in the coastal climate areas of BC and the Pacific Northwest. It has been a best seller for CMHC who sponsored and published the guide.
The guide begins with a discussion of climate, building science principles, and behaviour of wood. The following chapters provide guidance regarding appropriate selection of assemblies (walls, windows, roofs, balconies, and decks), details at assembly interfaces and penetrations, and finally choices for materials and components. The final chapter provides guidance on maintenance and renewals planning.
