- In 2008, AMAA retained RDH to provide building enclosure consulting services related to this hospital facility, constructed 10 years earlier.
- In addition to water ingress problems around the tile cladding and punched windows, the building suffered from extensive slab defection problems from the initial construction, which resulted in significant inward and outward movement of the wall assembly. This created exceptional challenges in the redesign, as window heads and sills from floor to floor varied up to 3” out of plumb.
- RDH teamed with AMAA in the design of a high-performance window system and furred rainscreen cladding to plumb the finished wall assembly. A high-performance curtain wall assembly replaced the storefront ribbon and punched windows; and architectural metal panels on rainscreen furring over a liquid-applied air barrier system replaced ceramic tile cladding on cement board.
- Improvements to the wall air barrier assemblies are expected to significantly improve the energy performance of the building.
