- The Marine Building is a beautiful example of Art-Deco terra cotta and masonry work. It is classified as a City of Vancouver Class A historic structure.
- The building was designed by McCarter and Nairn and built in the early 1930s. At the time of construction, it was the tallest building in the British Empire.
- Water penetration has resulted in some ongoing deterioration of the brick masonry and terra cotta.
- RDH has been assisting the owners with maintenance and restoration of the brick masonry, terra cotta, windows, and roof assemblies since 1998.
- To date, work has included the stabilization and securement of masonry and terra cotta elements that have moved primarily due to oxide jacking of shelf angles and other structural components. Patching and waterproofing of the terra cotta elements is also one of the ongoing tasks.
