Wall assemblies represent a primary design element for the architect; and therefore, a variety of cladding types and arrangements are usually considered. RDH is not only familiar with all traditional cladding types, but also have the fundamental building science skills to be able to assess new and innovative materials or components.
Unlike glazed components of the building enclosure, walls consist of a series of layers that comprise the entire assembly. Therefore, not only is it necessary to understand each individual material, it is essential to understand how these materials interact to meet the functional and performance requirements for the assembly. RDH’s advanced analytical skills and research project and field experience allow us to assess these assemblies.
Our advanced understanding of wall performance has been acknowledged by RDH being commissioned to undertake research projects and write several significant guideline documents such as the Performance Monitoring of Rainscreen Wall Assemblies in Vancouver British Columbia and the Best Practice Guide: Wood Frame Envelopes in the Coastal Climate of British Columbia.
